Summary Imaging Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems, in which the transmitted signals are optically separated at the receiving end, are considered a feasible solution for long-distance optical wireless communications. In a previous study, the performance of a light-emitting diode-based (LED-based) imaging MIMO system for outdoor transmission was experimentally evaluated and achieved 200 Mbps error-free transmission over 100 meters. The experimental results also showed that imperfect alignment of the optical components can degrade communication performance. In this study, to overcome this degradation, we introduce low-density parity-check codes with the decoding scheme considering error rate differences due to transmitting LEDs. Using error rates obtained from actual communication experiments, we evaluate a variety of codes of different lengths and coding rates. As a result, a code that achieves a performance close to the Shannon limit curve is found.
