| Summary |
Reliable remote control of multiple machines is essential for energy management systems for large-scale buildings and advanced future smart grids. This study uses power line communication (PLC) as a means to exchange state information and control commands between a controller and multiple machines, as PLC has significant advantages over other communication solutions: lower introduction cost, higher flexibility, and extensibility.
A unique feature of a PLC channel is its nonstationarity (cyclostationarity). This means that the noise level and thus communication quality periodically change synchronous with the mains absolute voltage. In such environment, it is important to consider the variation of communication quality to improve the stability and accuracy of the system. This study proposes two selective transmission schemes for control commands: one selects control commands based on channel periodicity while the other selects control commands based on the reception of the state information. The results of performance evaluation show that the scheme based on channel periodicity achieves better stability and accuracy. |
