Title Evaluation and Mitigation of Vessel Motion Effects on MIMO-UOWC Systems
Authority International Conference on Materials and Systems for Sustainability (ICMaSS)
Summary In underwater optical wireless communication (UW-OWC) systems, the position of the transceivers placed on vessels may fluctuate due to the effect of the recurrent wave motions inherent to the nature of the underwater environment. In fact, the vessel motion can lead to a considerable misalignment between the UW-OWC transceivers. In this paper, we consider a UW-OWC system in which the transmitter is fixed in the water whereas the receiver, which is placed at the bottom the vessel, moves according to six degrees of freedom. In order to overcome the performance degradation, we use a spatial diversity technique, i.e., multiple input multiple output (MIMO). We propose an analytical model to evaluate the effect of the dynamic motion effect on the communication quality in terms of the transmission matrix for each element spacing, as well as the bit-error rate.
