Title Combination of a Wireless Sensor Network and Drone Using Infrared Thermometers for Smart Agriculture

Summary Smart agriculture is receiving considerable attention as an application that utilizes wireless sensor network (WSN). WSN enables efficient agricultural support by monitoring the growth conditions of crops. A type of biological crop information, leaf temperature, is important for estimating transpiration and photosynthesis activities. For efficient collection of the leaf temperature data over the entire farm, we simultaneously use a drone in the air and WSN sensor nodes on the ground that are both equipped with infrared thermometers. In this study, we propose a communication protocol for WSN. The preliminary results of a prototype experiment show that the measurements are sufficiently synchronized for collecting useful leaf temperature data.
